0320 – An Interview with Alessandro Padovani of Safer Faster Defense

Most folks that I know and spend time with are interested in self-defense to some level. As a result these people carry gear that they believe will help to keep themselves safer. Almost without exception a knife is part of that gear. Knives are handy tools both from a utility standpoint and in terms of self-defense. Yet most people have spent little to no time training to use a knife as a defensive weapon. Today at Ohio Krav Maga in Hilliard a group of peple worked to remedy that situation by training with Alessandro Padovani of Safe Faster Defense. We asked Ale to take a few minutes to sit down with us and talk about preparing to carry a knife as a defensive tool.

/
Those of you that have been around for a while know that my shooting is originally founded in the competitive arena. I cut my teeth with a 1911. 0280 – I.C.E. Training Defensive Firearms Coach Instructor Development Course

/
I have worked hard to extend my professionalism in the area of continuing education as a defensive firearms instructor, but for the most part I have been relegated to nugget hunting. Spending hours and hours in courses to find that one piece of information that made it "worth my while." As time has progressed, I have found fewer and fewer nuggets and I have a harder time spending energy away from my family and my business squandering resources for little benefit. the I.C.E. Defensive Firearms Coach IDC wasn't that way.

Firearm sales are through the roof and many folks that are buying guns are doing so for defensive purposes. This coupled with the number of states that are making it easier to carry a firearm defensively leads to a boom in training and an increase in training companies. Any time an industry expands there can be some growing pains. Different folks become involved for different reasons, some good, some not so good. A new organization has begun to some together to try and provide some guidance to Professional Defensive Shooting Instructors and their customers on what should be expected in the industry. The organization, the Association of Defensive Shooting Instructors, developed the following code under the guidance of Rob Pincus, Grant Cunningham and Omari Broussard. Today I want to talk about the code and what it means to me.

My interview with Grant Cunningham proves my point well that SHOT Show is an opportunity to gather knowledge as much as it is an opportunity to drool over new gear. Grant does a wonderful job of concisely sizing up some of the issues that folks are confronted with when they start to look at revolvers and how they fit into modern combatives.

0215 – FF Walmart Shooting Sparks Controversy

I'm not a lawyer. I don't even proetend to be one on the internet. I do however spend a good bit of time working to understand violence and all of the possible implications it carries with it. There is no doubt that violence carries with it some very serious implications. We must find balance between acting quickly and aggressively enough to preserve our life while showing enough restraint to keep our finances and freedom secure.
