0317 – Safety and Security Trends in our Schools

School shootings are a complex and challenging problem to solve. The reactionary position that LE, school administrators and students find themselves in seems to be a difficult scenario in which to succeed, however, the stakes are high. We value our children tremendously as we should and a the same time we often leave them in precariously exposed positions without the tools to deal with serious problems that can occur. Some news this month would seem to indicate that we are correcting course to a degree and working to regain ground in the battle to keep our children safe. Today we will talk about some of the issues that surround school violence.

0307 – The Problem with Firearm Safety Rules

I’m not a safety Nazi, but at the same time, I think that we do need to pay attention to safety especially when we are talking about firearms.  The consequences when there is an accident with a firearm can be very severe, ranging from a bruised ego to death of yourself or another.  It is this reason that people are so focused on safety rules for firearms.  Rules,  however, are seldom the solution.  People look at rules as magic talisman that protect us from danger, but this couldn’t be farther from the truth.  We must look at safety as a concept with rules acting as a guide and our engaged brain doing the majority of the work.  Speaking of work, we are going to do some today.  We are going to look at the problems that firearms rules can cause and how it is that we can deal with those problems.

0300 – Safety as a Concept In Training and in Life

Sometimes it seems like we live in a world of rules. Often times these rules are in lists that are so long and complicated that they are impossible to “know” and even more difficult to follow and enforce. The barrage of rules can be so overwhelming that at times, by some, the rules are simply ignored. This obviously leads to the exact opposite effect that the rules themselves were intended to cause.  Today we are going to take a look at safety in training and how we can apply those principles to life.

0299 – Getting Children Into Car Seats Safely

Those of you out there that have children will understand what I mean when I say that my whole outlook on life changed when my kids entered my life.  All of a sudden, it wasn’t just about me any more.  A little person was dependent on my judgement and actions for survival.  It was a big responsibility that resulted in a big shift.  I recently got an email from Michelle that illustrates this point exactly.  Today we are going to take some time to look at how we can keep our children and ourselves safe while we are focused on an important task, putting our kids in their car seats.

0294 – Safety at Home: 17 ways you can make your home a safer place!

I am working hard to mix it up.  Today I really wanted to talk about something really high speed and gunny, but I was able to put a check on myself and  find some information that could very well be more important than or defensive firearms (collective gasp.)    There are few places where we spend as much time as we spend in our home.  It makes sense then that we spend some time thinking about home safety.  Spring is a great time to think about what needs to be done to keep you and your loved ones a bit safer and with warmer weather on the way, it is something we are doing something about here in NE Ohio.
