0282 – 4 Reasons Why I Am Switching from 45 ACP to 9mm and Why You Too Should Make the Change

This podcast is a little bit painful to post. You see, for the past two years I have been eating crow as I made the switch from .40 S&W to .45 ACP. Just about the time I was really getting into my groove with the my Templar Custom Arms Glock 25.5 chambered in .45 ACP I’m going to make another switch. Yup, I’m making the switch to 9mm. I have a Caracal F that I have been testing (more videos coming early next week if things go well) and I will probably have a couple of 9mm Glocks built up in the next month. I will be testing those guns heavily in the next few months and one of them will be replacing my Trusty Glock 25.5.

0261 – An Interview with Ray Kohout Designer of the Heizer Defense Double Tap

When I first saw the Double Tap I couldn’t help thinking, “one gets ten.” As I looked at the double tap more and more, it quickly distanced itself from the FP-45 Liberator. There are certainly similarities, size, caliber, and extra rounds stored in the grip, but the workmanship puts the Double Tap in a whole new league. Despite the fact that the Ray Kohout comes from a gun background, the design of the Double Tap would lead you to believe otherwise. Roller bearings and CNC from head to toe are more indicative of the aerospace industry than a firearms design. No fetzer valve, but with Heizer Defense it’s all ball bearings these days.

0137 – Impressions of a First Time Shooter

One of the common themes of my life has been teaching.  No matter what I get involved in I end up teaching it.  I have taught lots of fun stuff throughout my life but today I got to teach a common topic for me to someone I NEVER thought I would have a chance to teach.  My sister asked me to take her shooting.  I was thrilled and jumped at the chance.

I wanted to take some time to talk with her about her experience.

  • Tell us about your previous experience with guns.
  • Why did it take you till this point in your life to want to shoot a gun.
  • Before we went to the range, what were you thinking, wondering, excited about, maybe even concerned about?
  • Before we headed to the range we took just a few minutes to talk about safety.  What are your thoughts about safe gun handling.
  • We went to an indoor range.  What were your thoughts about that experience from a service standpoint, etc.
  • I made the choice for you shoot a Glock 19 which is chambered in 9mm.  What did you think about this pistol.
  • I also offered the chance for you to shoot my Glock 21 which is a .45.  What did you think about the differences in the two guns?
  • If you had our shooting excursion to do over again what would you change.
  • Will you ever do it again?
  • What is your next step in shooting?
